UNIQLO Spring 2014

UNIQLO are a high street anomaly. Each season the Japanese label produce truly classic menswear: well cut, timeless designs that are constructed to the highest standard in superior materials – and for a price that will not break the bank. Shunning the fast fashion industry’s notorious ‘wear once’ attitude to style, they have become one of our readers’ favourite retailers; celebrated by men who value quality and longevity over fleeting trends and those wanting to build a versatile capsule wardrobe. With this in mind, today we take a look at what the brand have in store for spring 2014…

Tom Odell For UNIQLO

British singer-songwriter Tom Odell has been signed up to front UNIQLO’s spring 2014 menswear campaign. The Another Love star features alongside Twilight actress Dakota Fanning, who heads up the womenswear offering from the label. Since winning the Critics’ Choice BRIT Award in 2013, Odell has sat at the top the album charts in both the UK and Europe, and scored a further two nominations at this year’s ceremony. On the appointment of Odell and Fanning, CEO of UNIQLO USA Larry Meyer said the brand is “proud to partner with these young and talented artists.” “We are very happy Dakota and Tom will showcase our newest lines all across the world,” he added.

The Collection & Campaign

Emphasising their classic and practical approach to style, UNIQLO have focused on materials and comfort within their new spring 2014 collection. Realising that the season’s often fluctuating temperatures can make dressing particularly difficult, premium lightweight fabrics such as linen and Supima®Cotton have been utilised to help bring a touch of effortless elegance to your wardrobe, without sacrificing function. Along with this emphasis on seasonally-appropriate materials, the collection also features the core basics UNIQLO are renowned for – such as their signature AIRism innerwear, polo shirts and soft cotton tees – in one of menswear’s most timeless colours, indigo. Odell is often seen clothed in this classic hue within the campaign imagery, which has been applied to staples such as slim-fit denim, linen shirts and blazers:
