Exclusive Preview: Volklore SS14
Men’s apparel label Volklore has granted FashionBeans an exclusive first look at its Borneo-inspired SS14 collection. The brand was set up in 2010 by British-designer Sam Giles, after cutting his teeth at Paul Smith, Religion, Elvis Jesus and Buddhist Punk. Since then, Giles’ firm has quickly been in the ascendant after launching its debut collection on ASOS Marketplace before being promoted to the main site no more than two years later. Now residing between Cheshire and Hong Kong, Volklore has become celebrated – on both a British and international level – for its intelligent designs that are created to get even better with age. However, it is the label’s ‘design vacation’ that forms the stem of each new season. For SS14 the brand set sail to northern Borneo, soaking up the culture the idyllic island had to offer over a three week period. The result is a tropical-inspired offering that blends rich screen prints – pineapple trees, sublime sunsets and painterly thin-line patterns – with innovative surface textures. The offering mirrors the playful and creative style that has become a hallmark of Volklore’s success. Choosing to unveil the new line of t-shirts, polos, vests and shorts exclusively on FashionBeans, the SS14 collection will be welcomed by ASOS and Hypebeast in mid-March. Other international menswear names, such as Urban Outfitters in the US and celebrated boutique stores in Hong Kong, will also roll out the line. The full menswear collection will take pride of place on Volklore’s standalone website, which also hosts ‘The Guild’. Part of the soon-to-be re-branded site, The Guild is a digital platform showcasing the creative talent of contributors who the team of four have met on their travels throughout Asia, Europe and the US through to Borneo, Bali and Vancouver. Retailing between £28 and £60, it has been confirmed that the SS14 line will be on offer with free delivery to the UK.
