Designer Looks To Space For Fifth Season With Adidas
Raf Simons has welcomed in his fifth season with sportswear giant adidas by unveiling an extensive footwear collection inspired by outer space. Looking to a vintage astronaut suit as a creative starting point, Simons has produced a colourful new selection of adidas’ Stan Smith, Response Trail II and Ozweego II trainers (now renamed the Response Trail Robot and Ozweego Robot, respectively). It’s the Stan Smith model that leads the pack, coming in a mix of striking shades – from yellow to green and everything in between – each finished with a hole punched ‘R’ to the side upper. An additional four iterations of the shoe have been crafted from a specially treated distressed-look leather, giving the collection a vintage edge. Meanwhile, the Ozweego and Response Trail shoes incorporate industrial detailing in a nod to their new robotic monikers, with a mix of matte and hi-shine finishes adding to the space age aesthetic. Look out for the Raf Simons x adidas autumn/winter 2015 collection when it launches in July at select stockists, with prices ranging from £210 to £340 at the current exchange rate.
