In a meeting of great British fashion minds, workwear don Oliver Spencer has enlisted Rankin – the Dazed & Confused founder and photographer of everyone from David Gandy to Heidi Klum – for its latest lookbook.
Rather than just drape models in kit pulled from the rails, Spencer decided to keep things personal by tapping up the brand’s fans – from Monocle fashion editor Take Sato to Specials drummer John Bradbury and skater Thomas Harrison – and plonking them in his favourite chair, sporting his designs.
“I’ve always loved [Rankin’s] work,” says Spencer. “He’s also a customer, therefore that gave him a connection to the brand. We decided to base the shoot around 11 of my favourite customers, who are all moving and shaping things in London.”
The result is something a touch more personal than your usual lookbook. So instead of anonymous men staring out of frame, you get eyes down the barrel and an explanation of how they came to fashion in general, and Oliver Spencer in particular. All of which makes you lust after the beautiful clobber draped over them even more.
