How To Pull Off Colour This Spring/Summer
From in your face neons to subtle pastel shades, colour plays a huge part within the fashion industry each and every spring/summer. And for SS15, it seems it doesn’t matter how you choose to don these statement hues – vivid prints and vibrant block-colour pieces are both having a moment – so long as you’re wearing something that makes you stand out. Yet bold colours are notoriously difficult to pull off in a sophisticated and stylish way, so we asked celebrity stylist Harry Lambert to give us his top tips for nailing seasonally-appropriate brights…
Stylist’s Tips: Harry Lambert
FashionBeans: What brands are good to look into for colourful items we’ll actually want to wear? Harry Lambert: French label Sandro has produced some great bright clothes this season. They’ve cleverly mixed vivid tones with darker neutrals to make it all a bit easier to wear. The brand’s black Hawaiian shirts with shots of teal and purple are particularly strong. Other designers that don’t shy away from colour are Katie Eary, Christopher Kane and Astrid Anderson. If you don’t want to part with too much money, Topman Design’s SS15 collection is also packed with colourful, seventies-inspired pieces.

There’s a lot of coloured trousers on the market currently – how should we style these if we want to give the look a go? If you’re going to wear a block-colour trouser, it’s better to keep the top half of your outfit neutral. For example, try a pair of bright chinos with a simple black sweatshirt or relaxed white tee. Make your legwear the focus and let the rest of the outfit complement them.

What’s the best way to add colour to an outfit with out going overboard? A great way to work with brights is through accessories. If you wear an all-black outfit, for example, try teaming it with a statement pair of trainers or add a pop of colour with a vivid sock. A colourful accessory can instantly lift one of your more classic looks.

Can you please support us in our quest to put to bed the myth that bright colours only work if you’re tanned? It’s true, bright coloured clothes are not just for an Ibiza-tanned body. All men should embrace colour. If you stick to softer hues (think pastels) that are slightly more washed out than neon, you’ll be fine.

Finally, what’s your ultimate bold coloured piece of clothing for SS15? Christopher Kane offers fun, bright prints in his collections, and a statement T-shirt is always a good investment. Hood By Air is another cool brand doing fun, printed tops for SS15. If you’re a fan of high-end streetwear, they are definitely worth investigating.
