In a meeting of great fashion and great minds, British label Oliver Sweeney has partnered with cultural enterprise The School of Life to produce a limited edition shoe inspired by ancient Greek philosophy. The unisex slip-on style, called ‘The Philosopher’s Shoe’, is a sleek, minimal design crafted from black leather by Oliver Sweeney’s Italian artisans, and incorporates The School of Life’s signature yellow shade on the heel tab and side stamped logo. However, the real talking point is the line embossed on the shoe’s sole: ‘Head in the stars, feet on the ground’, which nods to the project’s inspiration – a fable called The Astronomer who Fell into a Well. Featuring revolutionary philosopher Thales, the story recalls a mythical tale of the knowledgeable and innovative thinker’s life, whose approach to learning is now embraced by The School of Life’s education outreach programmes.
