A First Look At The Comme Des Garçons X Nike VaporMax

When Nike launched the Air Max 1 way back in 1987, its goal was to change the sneaker game forever (and it’s fair to say it did a pretty good job.) Almost 30 years on, the legendary bubble shows no sign of bursting, with the world’s most recognisable sneaker getting an upgrade at the hands of Comme Des Garçons. Blink and you might have missed it but at the Japanese label’s spring/summer 2017 runway show in Paris designer Rei Kawakubo unveiled the the latest reboot in the Air Max family. The new futuristic looking sneaker, known as the VaporMax, uses Nike’s equally celebrated Flyknit construction in all over black or white (a far cry from the vibrant zip wallets Kawakubo’s label is known for.) As well as being Nike’s debut slip on variation of the streetwear kicks, the VaporMax is also the first time that the entire glossy sole is just air bubbles from toe to heel. In other words: buy them, just don’t step on anything sharp. The Comme Des Garçons X Nike VaporMax sneaker will be available from early 2017, price tbc.
