When adidas’ new silhouette, the NMD, dropped last year, we were a bit underwhelmed. Nice as it as to see the Three Stripes pushing into new shapes, not just raiding its archive, it was a style that felt a bit meh compared to the bonkers – yet excellent – Tubular.

However, 2016 has seen adidas take the shoe in more interesting directions, making it over first as a chukka boot and now with an entirely Primeknit upper. Which should interest fans of Nike’s Sock Dart, which was re-released in 2014 and spent about as much time on shelves as Kanye’s Yeezys.

In fact, it looks a little like Nike’s shoe shacked up with a Yeezy 350 Boost – there’s the same lack of branding, a similar ribbing round the cuff and an embossed instep. But, hopefully, the NMD City Sock will be rather easier to get hold of than both.

The adidas Originals NMD City Sock is available from 16 March at adidas.co.uk/NMD.
