To celebrate its 50th anniversary, California skate label Vans has released a limited edition ‘Checkered Past’ collection, which takes the brand’s iconic checkerboard motif and applies it to handwoven leather footwear and accessories. The checkerboard has been a sacred emblem of Vans since the company’s inception. While traditionally applied as a print to canvas uppers, the ‘Checkered Past’ collection instead weaves the pattern from high-quality leather. Included in the range are the Original Classics, the OG Classic Slip-On LX and OG Sk8-Hi LX silhouettes – all of which are available in blue, white, black and multicoloured checkered colourways. The Leather Checker Bag completes the line, combining luxury leatherwork and skater style. Although we’d advise not actually wearing something this luxe on your skateboard.
