ill.i Optics Set For Launch This September
Will.i.am is hoping success in the music industry will translate to fashion as the star confirms the launch of his ill.i Optics glasses line. The 39-year-old musician and producer has designed the unisex range of optical and sun models alongside friend and Australian designer George Gorrow. Despite his signature futuristic style, the former Black Eyed Peas front man has said the self-funded project references vintage designs. Goggle-style metal and wire frames, retro-style geek glasses and classic round tortoise styles are reported to feature. Speaking ahead of the launch, The Voice UK judge said: “I wanted to marry the retro feel with futurism, take yesterday’s sensibility with today’s aesthetic.” During an interview with WWD, Will.i.am also hinted at a follow-up launch in the form of a smartwatch phone dubbed i.am.plus. Born William Adams Jr, the star already sells clothing through his i.am.clothing business. The ill.i Optics frames are due to land in select retailers worldwide from 16th September, though no official UK stockists have been given. Prices will start from around $300 (£180).
