To promote the recent release of their Holloway Road collection for autumn/winter 2013, River Island have invited fashion lovers behind the scenes of the Chad & Paul-helmed photo shoot in a new video featuring exclusive footage and talking head interviews. River Island Menswear Press Officer Michael Dale (here doubling up his workload by adopting styling duties alongside stylist Dennis Lye) talks us through a few of the colours and textures that link pieces in the collection. Varied tones of burgundy, as is typical of the season, and rich French navy make a welcome reappearance alongside bold shots of teal that inject a sense of springtime levity into the deeper, more traditional colour palette. These rich hues are seen across a wide range of luxurious and diverse fabrics – including tweeds, wools and cotton canvas – emphasising the line’s heritage-inspired origins. Hairstyling renegade Matt Raine, better known as Mr. Natty, offers inspiration for complementary hairstyles. Again taking notes from the heritage fashion theme of the collection (and perfectly in keeping with recent men’s hairstyle trends,) Mr. Natty chooses slick, precise coiffures for his models and was clearly inspired by the uniform, retro and almost military-esque look of the collection – which looks as smart and on point today as it did when River Island opened its first set of doors on the eponymous Holloway Road back in 1948.
