As we see notions of exploration and heroism come to the fore yet again this AW13, Lacoste looks to evoke the authentic explorer tradition of old in its new Lacoste Essential Design footwear collection. Focusing on mixed materials and tonal colouring with a distinctly autumnal feel, the brand has aimed to rework traditional silhouettes with modern design details. The British arm of the collection features four models: the Hadley, Henlow, Walsham and Orford – all of which benefit from a focus on craftsmanship and heritage. Neoprene In-Socks retain the classic silhouettes of the shoes whilst simultaneously exploring a commitment to innovation by Lacoste. In combination with their use of Troxler fur and other high-end traditional materials, often applied with hand-stitched detailing, the brand is clearly looking to combine this season’s desire for heritage with the unstoppable growth of technical wear. One of the most prominent pieces within the collection is the Walsham mid-cut chukka style boot. The battered blue colouring combines the bold nature of these shoes with their more traditional styling, whilst a slightly wedged sole and yellow mid-sole complement and enhance the prominent colour way. This is then picked up in the waxy leather upper through apricot stitch detailing – Lacoste’s colour of the season – which is again given pride of place on the heel patch.
