NEWGEN: Fashion’s New Generation of Designers
The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced its NEWGEN winners for SS14. Nine of London’s best and brightest design talent have been given special sponsorship by the BFC, as part of a three year plan to boost the growth of British-born designers. The winners, listed below, will be given financial and corporate support in order to help build their businesses into high-end fashion brands, with global aspirations. Catwalk sponsorship will go to J.JS Lee, Lucas Nascimento, Marques’Almeida, Simone Rocha and Sister by Sibling; presentation sponsorship will be given to 1205, Nasir Mazhar and Sophia Webster; and Liam Fahy will receive exhibition sponsorship. Mentoring, support groups and one-to-one workshops will be in store for the winners. They will also have access to the team at TOPSHOP – a long-term partner of NEWGEN. The labels are set to show their SS14 collections during September’s London Fashion Week. “It’s with pleasure that we are able to offer this incredibly talented and diverse group of designers NEWGEN support to help guide their journey towards commercial success, both at home and overseas” states Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council. “All nine recipients sit at the helm of Britain’s creative success and we look forward to seeing their upcoming collections this September”. First launched in 1993, NEWGEN sponsorship acts as a launch pad, giving new talent the nurturing, investment and media exposure they require in order to take their brand and product lines to the next level. They will certainly be in good company, as previous winners of the scheme include Alexander McQueen and Jonathan Saunders.
