Further news has emerged of American designer Rick Owens’ ongoing collaboration with sportswear giants Adidas. A spring/summer 2014 line is set to continue the huge success the partnership enjoyed throughout 2013. Owens believes a lack of fashion conscious sportswear designs make the pairing a necessity. Original reports of the recommission came earlier this year when a limited number of styles debuted at Paris Fashion Week. Much of the spotlight on Owens recently, however, has focused on his recent store opening in Miami. Renowned for his unique designs, the designer commented: “I’m in my fifties now and I need to do something for my heart and lungs. So, I’ve got to start running. I thought to myself, ‘What shoes am I going to wear running?’ I can’t wear my big chunky basketball shoes – I’d look like a dinosaur running through the Tuileries.” Images released this month of the collection shows styles typical of the designer. The minimal designs are given sharp, futuristic outlines while maintaining the degree of practicality required for sportswear. The pieces are limited to a muted tones, in keeping with the spirit of Owens’ label. Prices and UK stockists are yet to be announced but early suggestions are the line will come in at a similar point as the previous, retailing at around £275.
