Tokyo Laundry: AW13 Collection
The Tokyo Laundry AW13 collection offers essentials for every university student: knits and wool coats to last through the cold winter months, colourful hoodies to help inject character into your looks (all whilst remaining practical and comfortable) and details that elevate each piece above flimsy fast fashion.
Early September offered some official news from the brand about the collection: a September 6th Facebook update featured a photo shoot that was designed to introduce the key pieces, with the advice to layer cardigans, knits and coloured chinos, all in a palette that ranged between muted and bright.
Along with this, the brand’s official website previewed the range. Whilst its signature pieces have returned, such as the ‘Brookmere Gilet’, Tokyo Laundry expanded its selection of outerwear and knits. The result covers both classic and modern aesthetics.
Jacquard knits, for instance, offer timeless appeal and come in a literal rainbow of colours, creating an aesthetic that transcends decades whilst fitting in with current bold and bright colour trends. Corduroy patches on shoulders and elbows add contrast and a hint of sophistication.
Hoodies – a student essential for every season – stick with what’s becoming a classic look. Bright jewel hues make standard zip-up and drawstring soft-washed cotton designs pop, especially when paired with classic indigo jeans or neutral chinos. Vibrant graphics printed onto the front further add to the distinction.
Beyond these two common products, Tokyo Laundry almost stoically sticks with versatile basics. These pieces, like olive green chinos and wool blend coats in grey or blue, are those that you will end up reaching for season after season, as they become the workhorses of your casual wardrobe.
At the same time Tokyo Laundry expanded its menswear offering, it also added more accessories and women’s styles. The AW13 collection can currently be purchased on the brand’s website.
