Andreas Melbostad will reveal his new menswear collection for Diesel Black Gold on Wednesday at the Stazione Leopolda, Florence, in a catwalk show it has been confirmed. The emphasis on music will be in keeping with the company’s theme for this season: ‘Rock me Pitti’. “I realised rock is also close to the Diesel Black Gold attitude,” said the designer, who in former shows has used the music of Depeche Mode, New Order and The Chemical Brothers. “The emotion comes from the recognition of the original and iconic tracks, reworked and remixed for a new feeling,” he added. Previously creative director of Diesel Black Gold’s womenswear division, Melbostad was given artistic control of the menswear department in September 2013. This marks his first foray into designing for men, and he plans to focus on silhouette and construction, complimenting the brand’s denim and leather elements with a more tailored aesthetic. Melbostad stated that his creative approach to mens and womenswear design is the same, taking “a subversive way and irreverent attitude” and crossing “opposing and different textures in contrast to traditional materials with innovative finishings”.
