Multipurpose City Clothing

Bench has been producing forward-thinking, streetwear collections for a number of years now. This season is no different, with the brand’s AW14 range offering a number of contemporary functional and technical garments.

The AW14 collection has been split into two distinct sections. One part equips the wearer for a full 24-hours in the city, while the other has an outdoors focus and incorporates performance fabrics, waterproofing, breathable linings and low-bulk insulation. The phrase ‘Born in the City, Built for the Mountains’ underpins the entire range and is the thread that brings the two sides together.

Prints are key across both lines, with the brand utilising a selection of motifs inspired by city life. A soundwave print, photographs of street signs, graffiti and placement graphics all feature, with the imagery defining the collection’s ethos. The ‘Murky Twill’ print in dark green and ‘Tree Slash’ in fresh white are two that flow seamlessly between the city- and outdoors-inspired ranges.

Fabric choices for AW14 were another opportunity for the brand to reinforce their urban aesthetic, while at the same time really bringing to the forefront their focus on performance.

A number of technical materials have been introduced for their unique properties and protection against the elements – just what you need in winter. Insulation in the form of lightweight padding, fleece linings, waterproofed fleece outers, breathable finishes and reflective yarns have all been incorporated into the garments, ensuring you remain comfortable and protected no matter what the conditions.

Other more traditional fabric choices – including denim and twill – have also been engineered to have technical properties. Schoeller Ecorepel Technology, for example, has been added to 11.5oz stretch-cotton denim to create a pair of hard-working trousers that are ideal for a cyclist’s commute. They feature revealed reflective elements and a series of hidden pockets, keeping you visible, safe and streamlined on your ride.

Collection highlights include the Quadruplejump Hoody, a bonded knit full-zip hooded jacket featuring a breathable laminate fabric, and the Soot Fleece Hoody from the Multipurpose Performance range. The Soot Fleece is made from a bonded nanofleece and includes practical features such as a windproof and breathable laminate, chin guard, shaped cuff, adaptable reflective trim and inner wind cuffs with thumb-loops.

Overall, for AW14, Bench have taken their renowned signature aesthetic and successfully incorporated a wealth of performance features. The result is a collection that not only looks great, but goes one step further to protecting you from the elements.

And whether those elements come in the form of a snow-swept mountain or a bleak winter’s commute, the brand have ensured that you’re going to look on-point while facing them.
