Table Tennis In The Spotlight With Two Heritage Brands
British labels Fred Perry and Nigel Cabourn have confirmed a partnership for spring/summer 2015, teasing a full menswear range inspired by a joint love of table tennis. The collection features classic designs adapted from those worn by Perry himself, as well as fellow World Champion Victor Barna. Pique cotton used in Perry’s original pieces from the 1950s is present across the line, with the addition of branding from the time adding a retro touch. Originally intended as an outerwear collection, early preview images show a simple palette of light blue, navy and white, used across casual clothing and accessories. Speaking about the project Nigel Cabourn, founder of the self-titled label, said: “Fred Perry is a brand that I think runs in some ways parallel to the Nigel Cabourn brand, both truly British brands inspired by British heritage and wherever possible manufacturing everything in the UK.” “I think a lot of Fred Perry and Nigel Cabourn fans alike will be pleased we have finally come together on this collaboration,” he added. Nigel Cabourn, which will open its first standalone UK store in September, is not new to collaborations, having teamed up with Converse in 2013 and Eddie Bauer in 2011. Similarly, Fred Perry has worked with the likes of Christopher Raeburn and Bodega in the past, in addition to ongoing ties with Raf Simons. A release date for the Fred Perry x Nigel Cabourn collection has been confirmed for March or April next year, with price points sitting between £85 – £395.
