John Smedley Autumn/Winter 2014

John Smedley celebrated 230 years of the finest knitwear with a static presentation at London Collections: MEN. The brand’s AW14 collection, entitled ‘The Journey’, was revealed on the opening day, shortly after Lou Dalton kicked off the event. Drawing inspiration from family albums of ski trips, as well as architecture from city adventures dating back to the 1930s, bold colours and geometric patterns were prominent throughout the line. Smedley, which was awarded a Royal Warrant in 2013, presented travel essentials in the form of a functional bag and blanket duo made from the brand’s extra fine merino wool. With the showcase taking place close to one of the BFC show spaces, it generated large amounts of interest. Stand-out pieces included loungewear, a 100 per cent cashmere grey tracksuit and slim-fitting striped polo shirts. The architectural influence was delivered using skillful intarsia knitting machines, which had chunky weaves in rich autumnal variations of Egyptian blue and Italian plum. Having manufactured in the UK since 1784, John Smedley is renowned for high quality yarn, fully fashioned construction and classic garments for those who admire British craft and refined style. The brand is currently offering up to 30 per cent off pieces from its AW13 line online, with the new range expected to land later this year.
