Earlier this year we brought you news that The Idle Man, a new online shopping destination for style-conscious gents, was set to shake up the menswear industry. The brainchild of Oliver Tezcan, ex-head of menswear at ASOS, The Idle Man is focused on providing men with something unique and altogether more credible than the standardised offering currently available on the high street and at fast fashion stores. Proving that the retailer plans to live up to this ethos, The Idle Man has recently joined forces with acclaimed streetwear label HYPE. to produce an exclusive range of men’s t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts. Today we take a closer look at the collection…
The ‘Back II Basics’ collection was inspired by minimal Scandinavian designs, with a particular focus on earthy tones and marble iconography. According to The Idle Man’s head buyer, Thom, who also had a hand in the design process: “The idea for the collection came from wanting to create a range that would be a departure for HYPE. Instead of floaty floral prints, we wanted to make the collection minimal and more contemporary. The prints are earthy, but unassuming – so work really well with basic block-colours. We also wanted it to be distinctive and recognised as The Idle Man.”
Our favourite pieces from the collection, the t-shirts on offer would slot seamlessly into any modern casual wardrobe, instantly injecting life into your personal style. Available in all-over or more subtle block-panel prints, you can choose to make as much or as little of a statement as you want. Completely limited edition, the patterns are exclusive to The Idle Man and have been inspired by everything from the Sahara night sky to the 1969 moon landing. Made from 100 per cent cotton and featuring a regular fit, they are comfortable and bound to become an everyday staple. Each t-shirt is priced at £25:

Complementing the range of tees on offer, sweatshirts and hoodies are also available in the exclusive prints. Our favourite has to be the sweatshirts, with their contrast block-panel running across the centre. Again made from 100 per cent cotton, they are lightweight, easy to wear and perfect for throwing on with a pair of jeans or chinos at the weekend. All are priced at £40 each:

To celebrate the release of the Back II Basics collection, FashionBeans attended the launch night party at HYPE.’s pop-up shop at Boxpark, Shoreditch back in September. With the sounds of the excellent Shorebitch DJs playing in the background, we got to examine the garments first-hand, along with many other style-conscious individuals, while enjoying copious amounts of Red Stripe and Sidro Montano. Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to providing the contemporary man with something not readily available on the high street, The Idle Man’s debut collaboration with HYPE. delivers in terms of both affordability and individuality. We can only hope that this is a sign of things to come, with the retailer continuing to produce limited editions and unique pieces that feel special and will help effortlessly separate our looks from the crowd. You can shop the full Back II Basics collection now on TheIdleMan.com – but be quick, pieces are selling out fast. ![]()
