Mr Start SS14 Review

Mr Start’s spring/summer 2014 showing at June’s London Collections: MEN demonstrated the tremendous breadth and enterprise the brand has to offer. Renowned for specialising in contemporary tailoring, the SS14 collection provides a more relaxed summer suiting and casual range, the likes of which we haven’t seen from the brand before. Under the rafters of the grand Georgian House of St Barnabas in London’s vibrant Soho area, the Mr Start collection came to life. From buggy lined blazers through to tailored shorts, the collection continued to convey Mr Start’s signature confidence and character. Stepping away from distinguished formal wear and springing into sleek, tailored summer staples, Mr Start’s range of casual wear provided a more relaxed but smart alternative to summer styling. Utilising a range of seasonal fabrics, from lavish lightweight linen through to tie silk, the garments on show could be classed as modern masterpieces. Tailored shirt-jackets and blousons emphasised an aesthetic that was more relaxed than what we have seen from the brand in previous years. The colour palette also received an injection of seasonally-appropriate hues, with button-down and mini button-down collar styles coming in sumptuous salmon and subtle chambray-cotton woven oscillation shirts available in rich blues. However, if FashionBeans were to pick just one stand out piece, it would have to come from Mr Start’s selection of SS14 blazers. With its sleek cut and slimmer lapel, the new ‘Rivington Club’ jacket is a perfectly tailored triumph and sure to breathe life into any summer wardrobe.
