Nike White Label Autumn/Winter 2013
Sports luxe has taken off over recent seasons as designers have found a wealth of unique, uncultivated fashion silhouettes within active clothing. The bomber jacket trend exemplifies this, demonstrating how a simple sportswear piece can be transformed in so many ways to create a domineering fashion craze.
However, many brands that utilise these sports pieces are not experienced in working with the materials of active wear. Therefore, who better to design a high-end sports luxe range than Nike, the unquestionable king of athletic attire.
In this year’s Nike Sportswear White Label AW13 collection, the brand have combined their knowledge of technical materials and awareness of fashion design to create a streamlined range of functional yet stylish garments. Silhouettes are kept minimalistic, and then built up by panels of different materials. Hoods, sleeves and the chest are all areas that have been used for contrasting patches, thereby enabling the designers to use appropriate fabrics for each section of the garment.
This ergonomic design style summarises the collection and Nike’s approach to fashion. The label have looked to create the perfect blend of style and function, a trait we are used to seeing from the brand – as observed in their prevalent ‘Free’ running shoe, which is now dominating high street style.
Whilst colour is kept almost unnoticeable in this latest collection – a result of the restrained navy, grey and off black palette – one feels that this only reinforces the ultra streamlined aesthetic Nike is aiming for. No pretension or unnecessary feature can be found; each and every detail has been centred on simplicity and function, two vital ingredients within any sports luxe collection.
