American Brand Designs Trainers With UK Edge

US footwear brand New Balance has created a series of trainers inspired by the mods and rockers scene, exclusively for UK menswear e-tailer Togs and Clogs. The limited edition trainer pack, based on the firm’s classic 576 shape, features two styles with cues taken from clothing of the 1960s. New Balance has packaged the mods’ fishtail parka into a trainer with the 575MOD. The khaki green model carries a sheepskin lining taken from the outerwear piece as well as the subculture’s famous Air Force logo on the tongue. The 576PUN has ties with the punk movement, shown through the use of black, red and green colour ways. Tartan – worn by the group on everything from trousers to boots and shirts – lines the shoes with the word ‘punk’ on the tongue. The trainers, which both have a Union Jack on the heel, are listed as limited edition. However, details of exactly how many have been produced have not been disclosed. Launched in 2011 by Tom Summerfield, Manchester-based Togs + Clogs also sells homewares, grooming products and vintage bicycles New Balance has 1,000 stockists in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Despite being a US business, the firm also has a production facility in Cumbria which produces 28,000 trainers a week The Mods + Rockers pack is available to buy online now exclusively from Togs and Clogs, priced at £130.
