Reiss Spring/Summer 2014
It’s a well-known fact that we here at FashionBeans are big fans of British label Reiss. Our ethos aligns closely with the brand’s dedication to producing timeless, high quality garments with a contemporary twist – which is why we’re so excited to introduce their new SS14 collection.
This season, Reiss’ goal was to design a range that captivates its customer with high-calibre design and offers something for every type of climate and occasion. To do this, the brand has focused on the key elements that make up every man’s wardrobe, from lived-in favourites to treasured classics.
The Inspiration: SS14 Collection
As always, Reiss has looked beyond current fads and trends when seeking inspiration for the collection’s aesthetic. This summer, expect items that reflect lifestyle choices outside of the catwalk. Outfits that guys will look and feel great in.
The resort style of movie stars from the 1950s and 1960s has influenced the SS14 offering, particularly its casual pieces. With a debonair coolness inspired by screen icons Cary Grant and Paul Newman, the collection exudes sophistication and elegance – perfect for crafting your own modern take on classic Riviera looks.
Eating out, and cafe culture in general, also plays a big part, directly contrasting with the formal and lavish restaurants we often like to visit during the colder winter months:
The Palette: Colours, Prints & Textures
Reiss’ SS14 palette conjures images of weekend breaks spent wandering the museums and art galleries of Provence, France. The brand’s menswear designers were inspired by artists such as Picasso and Matisse, whose unique style added to both the collection’s key colours and prints.
A timeless core of subdued stone and blunted charcoal hues is uplifted with shots of bleached-out neon. Vibrant reds and grapes are pared-back with linear black prints, while the clashing and smudging of pop colours keep things interesting and exciting.
Cool blue tones are also prominent throughout – unsurprising considering the hue’s significance across menswear fashion weeks in recent seasons – and are balanced by warmer shades of blood orange and oxblood.
Moroccan tiling and blown up geometrics create a push towards bolder patterns, together with the vibrant but delicate silk screen prints of Indian artist Rambharos Jha, which have been applied not only to shirts but cropped jackets, knitwear and jersey tops too.
In terms of fabrication, lightweight materials have been introduced to refresh the mood for spring, so be prepared to swap heavy wool for soft cotton. Buttery-soft suedes and leathers provide a sumptuous foundation for the outerwear on offer, while finely knitted polos offer a versatile, textured addition to any high summer wardrobe:

Key Pieces
From classic to contemporary, Reiss’ SS14 collection is filled with the items every man needs in his warm-weather wardrobe. Whether it’s an elegant Cuban collar shirt or bold Kinetic-coloured Harrington, this offering will effortlessly update your entire look, ready for spring.
For the office, mix charcoal suiting in slim cuts with concealed button-down shirts and luxury investment shoes. When the weekend arrives, reach for summer cotton separates and Jack Purcell trainers.
Capsule wardrobe staples are important, but carefully considered statement pieces will help individualise your outfits and separate your style from the crowd. Reiss’ belted safari leather jacket fits the bill perfectly, ideal for layering over denim on those chilly spring mornings.
For the transitional months, lightweight textured knitwear and unstructured blazers will become your daily go-tos. Then, when the holiday season finally arrives, it’ll be time to add tailored shorts and printed swimming shorts to your collection:
- Reiss 1971 Dustin Fine Knit Crew Neck Jumper
- Reiss Moorly Long Sleeve Polo Top
- Reiss Cobb Short Sleeved Polo Shirt
- Reiss Trill Suede Bomber Jacket
- Reiss Wicker Tailored Chino Shorts
- Reiss Florence Cotton Trousers
- Reiss Dayton Citrus Yellow Basic V-neck T-shirt – Reiss
