River Island Reveals Summer Collection
Holloway Road is returning with a new collection for summer 2014. It’s the latest drop from the River Island heritage line, which launched back in 2012.
The offshoot takes its name from the North London street, the location of the first ever River Island store opened by Bernard Lewis in 1948.
FashionBeans spoke to the brand’s Special Projects Designer, Melanie Smolenski, who indicated a move towards experimentation with the new offering:
“We wanted to take the collection somewhere fresh this time and avoid going too ‘heritage’. For high summer we drew upon what we like to call ‘retro vacation’! We offset postcard style graphic prints with a heady injection of colour to breathe new life in to the range and highlight those more traditional workwear pieces the collection is known for.”
While vintage-inspired print shirting, waxed canvas and tough workwear still run strong, experimentation with a mix of sportswear fabrications, such as mesh and nylon, have been incorporated to widen its appeal.
Highlights include a crisp white button-down shirt with linear horizontal/vertical design and colour pop blue pocket/collar detail and a classic men’s bomber jacket with a contrasting front and sleeve design.
Slim-cut jeans in timeless washes and with subtle ripping details also feature.
Prices for the Holloway Road range start at £25 for t-shirts, going up to £80 for jackets.
The collection is available now in River Island stores and online at RiverIsland.com.
