Who: David Beckham
Where: Las Vegas Sand Corps Photocall, Tokyo
Times change, people change – David Beckham included. One constant, however, seems to be the 42-year-old’s skill in red carpet tailoring. This time in a charcoal two-piece that ticks all the right boxes: peak lapels, glove-like fit and opposing tie and pocket square. We’ll even let the Cobain locks slide.
Who: Ryan Gosling
Where: Los Angeles
This denim jacket-jumper combo is becoming something of a habit – not that we’re complaining. Ryan Gosling’s foolproof formula is one that’s easily mimicked, with denim up top complementing navy shades elsewhere, and a black jumper breaking up the blue. We will be copying.
Who: Victor Cruz
Where: A Life Of Bowie Book Launch, New York
Scoring touchdowns on the pitch and off it, American footballer Victor Cruz shows why the three-piece suit is going nowhere soon. At a book launch dedicated to David Bowie, the 30-year-old placed good fit on the offence, but also made this most traditional of get-ups more casual with a knitted tie and suede shoes.
Who: Brendan Fallis
Where: Harper’s Bazaar Anniversary Fete, Paris
Upstaging your missus is never a good thing. Unless, that is, you’re one half of Instagram’s most sickeningly handsome couple. At a Harper’s Bazaar party for Paris Fashion Week, DJ Brendan Fallis took centre stage in a symphony of monochromes, countering conservative preppy vibes with a tee, simple kicks and a sockless approach. Double-tap.
Who: Seth Rogen
Where: New York
Former dad bod turned dadwear king, Seth Rogen can still flex a sharp wardrobe without pivoting from his usual style. The checked shirt – long a fail-safe off-duty piece – makes good company with currently trending wide-leg trousers below anchored by simple canvas trainers. Now all he needs is an actual child.
Who: Johannes Huebl
Where: Carine Roitfeld x Circo Loco Party, Paris
Not to be confused with Dave down the pub, Johannes Huebl made a massive Average Joe move at a fashion week party. And we mean that in the best possible way. The German model, rarely seen without a three-piece, does casual just as well in a slightly oversized white shirt that chimes with minimalist kicks below.
Who: Andrew Garfield
Where: Breathe Photocall, London
A tartan blazer sounds like the stuff of the Green Goblin’s nightmares. But at the London Film Festival, Spider-Man-turned-disability advocate Andrew Garfield came to the rescue. By sticking to darker tones, he makes what could be a tricky palette wearable, with a casual polo shirt grounding the look further. Our fashion sense is tingling.
Who: O’Shea Robertson
Where: M&S Tailoring Event, London
O’Shea Robertson: sounds like an Irish homebrewed ale, actually a rising British model. And better yet, he’s got a wardrobe to match. At an M&S tailoring talk in London, the 23-year-old nailed smart-casual by sticking to the same colour palette in laid-back suiting replacing the standard shirt with a simple, complementary knit.
