While the Junya Watanabe MAN autumn/winter 2011 collection has been making waves and appearing at online retailers across the globe, there is one particular piece from the collection that has stood out here with the FashionBeans team, and that is the Junya Watanabe Jacquard Varsity Jacket. Junya Watanabe have recreated an American classic and given it a contemporary twist by detailing it with a patterned jacquard body.
This innovative design consists of both the front and back having a Nordic pattern jacquard knit body, with leather sleeves, a striped collar with a satin inner lining. The varsity jacket was a major trend throughout spring/summer, but for the coming season we are seeing the progression in designs, making it the perfect option for those colder autumn days or hitting the ever present Ivy League or Preppy trends.
This unique jacket is certainly one of a kind – the leather sleeves are a welcome addition for the colder weather, whilst the Nordic pattern is a real statement that cannot fail to get you noticed. Matt Allinson has already stated that the leather varsity is on his 2011 autumn/winter hit list, and this example is one of the finest we have seen.
This outerwear comes in two colour ways: black/blue and white, and cream/red and white.
As expected with a premium designer, Junya Watanabe have strived for quality throughout, and this is shown through their choice of materials; using leather from San Francisco manufacture Johnsons – who incidentally supply leather workwear to the US military and police force.
