Originally established in Japan back in the 70s, Beams’ popularity has continue to grow throughout the years, allowing the brand to branch out into new realms. One of their projects includes a clothing line that caters exclusively for the more discerning gentleman, which was launched under the brand name Beams Plus.
Beams Plus clothing focuses on recreating American classics using Japanese fabrics and manufacturing techniques.
The latest spring/summer 2012 collection is wide ranging, featuring everything a capsule wardrobe could possible need, including: parkas, blazers, knitwear, shirts, trousers bags and even a line of accessories.
One piece from the SS12 collection that stood out immediately here at FashionBeans HQ was the Mountain Parka. Sticking to the classic American parka silhouette that Beams set out to recreate, it gives the jacket a modernised twist through choice of material, colour and detailing. This attention to detail and focus on innovation is what ensures that these items are not simple replicas.
Details which set this parka jacket apart include: a nylon mesh interior for optimal temperature control and moisture wicking, various slanted zip pockets to the waist and chest, leather draw string toggles, adjustable hood, striking orange lining and an internal drawstring waist adjuster – to give your shape a little more definition.
Other pieces that stood out were the camouflage trousers, shorts and bow tie – although not quite for the same reason as the parka. Camouflage is a controversial print that will always divide opinion within men’s fashion – you either love it or hate it – but you have to admit that it cannot fail to get you noticed (oh the irony) and makes a great statement if used with consideration.
