Guyliner and blunt cuts at the ready; as we take a look at the SS13 offerings from Swedish menswear giant Cheap Monday. With their youthful and experimental approach to fashion, Cheap Monday have released a bizarrely beautiful lookbook, displaying the best and bravest get ups from their SS13 range.
The stylistic direction focuses on challenging the concept of gender specific clothing and androgynous fashion. Both the male model and female model are heavily made up, with the male model often in ‘female’ footwear and the female dressed in masculine shaped clothing. With the latter becoming a definite trend in female fashion, this lookbook takes it one step further by pushing the opposite into menswear.
Working within a varied palette of green, grey and glossy black hues, we see a focus on fun fluorescents and bold accessories. Heavily distressed denims and logo tees maintain the youthful appeal, whilst grey tailored bottoms and layered pastel tops show a softer side.
The key pieces with a more wearable quality include the question mark tops and the pale blue denims. Although all pieces can be seen as fashion forward, with this style it is about mixing and matching as much or as little as you want. The whole look may not be for you but some of the colours or accessories might be!
Overall, it is all about having fun and an avoidance of being defined by what you are wearing…
