The guys over at Oki-ni have released their second feature in a series called ‘FOCUS’, which highlights menswear staples but provides modern alternatives to bring to the new season. This time they have focused on denim, a once-revolutionary fabric choice but now part of our daily lives. Once upon a time denim signified a new revolutionary generation and challenged everything society stood for, but it now signifies a cultural shift and has very different connotations. Every man needs a good pair of jeans, and oki-ni have provided several great choices.
According to oki-ni, denim provides something for everyone and the feature focuses on this fact, showing different ways to wear jeans, denim jackets and shirts – and the whole thing is shoppable. From an Acne sweatshirt teamed with black selvage denim, to the James Dean-esque combo of grey jeans, a graphic tee and Alexander McQueen cotton blouson, the choice is enviable.
In terms of the current season, the most appropriate outfit in my opinion is the Acne short sleeve denim shirt, which they have teamed with Jil Sander cotton trousers and Maison Martin Margiela sandals – embodying spring/summer. Other highlights include the dark-wash PRPS jeans and matching Big E denim jacket, teamed with black Dr. Martens brogue shoes – channeling the 50s look that is back in a big way this season.
The feature provides a welcome injection of inspiration into a sometimes stagnant category of men’s clothing. Men often get stuck in a rut with their denim choices, and this focus will provide them with alternatives without completely changing their personal style. Bravo Oki-ni.
