French Connection AW12 Collection
With autumn and winter fast approaching, it’s time to re-familiarise yourself with watching The X-Factor in your finest chunky-knit cardigan. Don’t let various summery tees (that are still for sale everywhere) fool you, we will soon all be drowned in a pool of scarves and gloves.
It may be harder to enjoy the colder months but I’ve always maintained that autumn/winter fashion is the best kind, and it looks like the high street is backing up this viewpoint. Many shops are currently showcasing previews of their superb new collections – one of which is French Connection, who have recently released their accompanying lookbook.
Again offering a signature collection of modern classics, the brand have been inspired by factors such as military heritage and British artistic talent, creating fresh, new trends for us all to enjoy.
Military Precision & Country Classics
For autumn, there is a prominent focus on khaki and camel tones. These traditional Earth colours are intertwined with highlights of burgundy, purple and red in order to create a contemporary contrast. Camouflage is the print of choice for French Connection this year, with the statement camo jacket becoming an instant ‘must-have’ addition to any man’s wardrobe.
Hunting pockets and elbow patches provide key detailing that will complete any military inspired look, whilst the teaming of oversized parkas with slim-fit trousers plays on the oversizing trend that we have seen rise in popularity during SS12.
British Heritage is also not neglected, with tweed, cords and thick wools providing a tactile element and offering a traditional taste of the British countryside.
Art Times & Retro Styling
British constructivism art has had a big impact on FCUK line for AW12. T-shirts feature abstract graphic prints on them, continuing the rise of the statement tee, and pairing them with dark toned jeans will be the key to creating a successful outfit.
For winter, abstract art and block colours will also appear on heavy knitwear. This makes a welcome change from the plain cable-knit jumpers and cardigans we see each autumn/winter, providing what French Connection call an “unorthodox finish”.
However, possibly the bravest and most exciting trend from their AW12 preview is Retro Styling. By using colourful, playful graphics on classic Oxford shirts, it helps to create a bold contrast with simple camel chinos, providing you with an effortless statement outfit. Neon hues are also incorporated on lightweight jackets to give a ‘vintage street wear’ vibe – a trend normally associated with the spring/summer season.
