Jeans with a History

The Hiut Denim Co. are a new jeans manufacturing company – and one starting a unique phenomenon. Thanks to a nifty little app called History Tag, the jeans will be the first in the world which will posses an individual recorded history. Each pair produced by the company will have a unique code sewn into them, and at each of the the various production stages will have a photograph taken of them. Thus, when you purchase a pair of Hiut Denim Co. jeans, you will be able to see their individual manufacturing process for yourself.

Wearers of the jeans will then be able to upload their own pictures of the jeans, and what they were doing while wearing them. It means when they are handed on, given to a second hand shop, or donated to charity, future buyers will be able to literally ‘see’ the jeans’ entire history. All they have to do is download the app and enter the jean’s code.

The introduction of the app, according to company founder David Hieatt, is to stand as a “badge of honour” – a testament to the jeans manufacturing. As high quality, hand-made products, they will be designed to outlast other jeans on the market. “The longer you make something last the more stories it has to tell” says Hieartt.

The Hiut Denim Co. aims to sell 2500 pairs of jeans in their first year. They plan to create 2 styles of men’s jeans to begin with, available in selected stores and via their website; hiutdenim.co.uk.
