It’s a perfect summer days activity to ride a bike in an idyllic country field, perhaps take a picnic and set up an al fresco lazy afternoon soaking up some sun. With this in mind, it struck us as slightly odd that Le Coq Sportif would choose October to bring out a special range of cycling gear.
However, we didn’t know that on 7th October the L’Eroica bike ride through Tuscany took place. Le Coq Sportif sponsors the event, which is the highlight of the year for vintage bike enthusiasts. This may sound slightly geeky but it’s all just a slightly elaborate excuse to get on an old fashioned bike and cycle round Tuscany to enjoy all the surrounding it has to offer. (Did we mention the vineyards?)
Taking the vintage bike theme as the jumping off point to design a capsule collection, Le Coq Sportif has done a great job updating classic pieces with slightly retro finishes. The palette is reminiscent of the 70s – with cream, light blue and maroon taking centre stage – and whilst we can all enjoy a retro polo (hell Fred Perry, Ben Sherman et al have built a whole brand around the notion) there is also something for the more seasoned cyclist.
The leather riding gloves provide a sense of purpose to the collection (as well as looking pretty damn cool) and the caps are equally as retro in design but also useful for keeping the Tuscan sunset out of our eyes.
Whilst here in Britain we are not likely to be venturing out on a sun soaked escape with our vintage set of 2 wheels, I am sure we can all enjoy the retro aesthetic and the Dolce Vita – plus the jersey tops will look great as cycle around London on a ‘borris bike’.
