To commemorate Evisu’s 20th Anniversary, the premium jeans brand has teamed up with Japanese born, New York based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama – aka Matzu – to produce a limited edition jeans box set.
The jeans in question are a re-working of the popular 2010 slim fit Evisu jeans. These unwashed selvage denim jeans have then been given an overhaul by the artist, to create a unique and truly individual garment.
Utilising Matzu’s most famous masterpiece, a modern re-imagining of the Kirin (the oriental unicorn – a mythological creature revered as a symbol of virtue and prosperity in East Asia), this iconic print has been featured all over the jeans in a tonal colour palette.
With the unicorn print fading gently into the fabric of the jeans, it is actually another stand out pattern that draws your eye – coming in the form of a vibrant yellow polka dot that has also been incorporated all over the jeans.
Not one to forget the smaller details, even the packaging is carefully considered and highly elaborate. The jeans are packaged up into an extremely detailed wooden box, the front of which features a detailed sketch of the Kirin; this is then beautifully wrapped with traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, furoshiki, which of course features the same printed Kirin design. If all that wasn’t already enough, the box set also comes complete with a special edition printed fan!
Granted, this is an extremely bold design when you consider traditional jean styles, and we are aware that they will not be everyone’s cup of tea – but what better way to celebrate your 20 years in the business, than with such a bold and striking fashion statement that is both on trend for 2012 and totally unique at the same time.
