Burton’s web-exclusive Montague Burton range is the result of a collaboration between Burton’s design team and Liam Hodges, a student of the Royal College of Art. Montague Burton is a capsule collection inspired by British heritage, in particular the clothing of the working man. Befitting of this inspiration, the collection is constructed with fabrics from Burton’s home county of Yorkshire.
The outerwear within the collection draws on a variety of time periods and professions for inspiration, helping channel a somewhat vintage aesthetic. Coats in checked wool and heavily textured pieces make the most of the high quality fabrics Burton has at hand.
The focal point of the range is doubtlessly Burton’s take on heritage suiting. A three piece suit in taupe wool captures the flavour of the distinctly British tweed suit, yet is neutral enough to allow for a wide range of styling options. For a less formal occasion, Burton provides a bold tweed blazer – seen below paired with selvedge jeans, it creates a look that has a smart structure yet foregrounds the hard-wearing versatility of the fabrics.
Burton also presents their take on the long-time winter staple – patterned knitwear. A selection of jumpers and cardigans in a variety of patterns, from a bold, colourful design to a more subtle two-tone piece, ensure there is something for everyone.
Burton is often overlooked in the arena of menswear yet the Montague Burton collection shows that they can hold their own and have a willingness to embrace new talent. The collection is a great example of how a laser focused take on a current trend can also be supremely wearable – never losing sight of the fact that the high street caters to all kinds of men.
