In my continued exploration of emerging design talent, it was unlikely for me not to come across the wonderful world of New Power Studio – and in particular, their explosive spring/summer 2012 collection titled ‘Birth Death Marriage’.
As a brand their design style appears heavily influenced by the 90s; boldly mixing an urban palette with sporty oversized silhouettes and detailing. Their newest collection carries all this and so much more…
Nodding its head to the current sports influence and print trend, this collection displays a relaxed aesthetic with a strong focus on shape. Baggy joggers and oversized shirts and tees form the foundations of the collection, with the odd appearance of shorts and accessories.
Although the general look is sporty, it is evident that tailored elements and intricate cutting techniques are present here – particularly so when studying the approach to detailing. Contrasting colours and textures are presented within each look, and often within one item, ultimately producing a bold ‘mix and match’ style. This is clear within pieces such as the maroon sweats. Complete with contrasting cuffs and all over detailing, this is anything but your standard jogging suit!
Both playful and original in their approach to fashion, New Power Studio is just one of the hugely talented labels pushing fashion boundaries in a serious way… whilst also helping to keep the global style spotlight on our fair little isle.
