Shwood Florence Sunglasses
Recently the idea of alternative investment pieces began circulating with sunglasses quickly making their way on to the short list. Shwood is an optics label hailing from Portland, Oregon specialising in wooden sunglasses.
Wooden sunglasses. We’re quite aware that this statement is somewhat oxymoronic. Like a meeting of dim-witted, funky white guys at a loners club. However, in their small West Coast workshop, Shwood are fashioning some awfully pretty products.
The Florence is their new offering; a classic P3-inspired shape hewed from the finest Santos Mahogany with Maple inlays. The rounded lens frames and central keyhole bridge have been beautifully cut, forming a silhouette that is simple yet recognisable.
The wood is sustainably sourced (of course) and the business end is taken care of by Carl Zeiss and his magnificent Italian lenses. Finally, wrapped in a wool pouch, the shades are housed in their own (and equally impressive) wooden case. Interestingly, no pair of these specs is exactly alike because the grain and tint is dependent upon the piece of timber from which the pair is formed.
Shwood are free from passing trends and dedicated to bringing an admiring customer base handcrafted creativity. Currently, the Florence is only available to UK customers online and at the expense of costly shipping fees, but do keep your eyes peeled for current vendors (such as End Clothing to begin stocking the new shape alongside the rest of the collection.
