H&M Mauritz Archive Capsule Collection
Offering an alternative to their long-standing designer collaborations, H&M have unveiled their menswear exclusive autumn/winter ‘Mauritz Archive’ capsule collection.
The collection pays homage to the beginning of the partnership between Hennes, a Swedish women’s boutique, and Mauritz Widforss, a rugged menswear retailer that specialise in outdoor attire and sports stock.
Taking inspiration from H&M’s first foray into men’s clothing, the twenty-one piece collection contains classic outdoor pieces such as wool blazers, boots, long johns and thick shirts – perfect for the dry, yet chilly autumn months to come. To keep things as authentic as possible, designer Petter Klussel utilised old store catalogues and advertisements as the inspiration for this year’s offering, and the result is very exciting for all of us.
Everything in the capsule collection is designed with both comfort and style in mind, taking traditional cold weather fabrics and combining with modern fits. For the brand, it is a much needed step away from the fast fashion market, allowing them to actually nail details such as the way the side seams of a blazer hug the body and the way chinos strike the perfect balance between slim and relaxed.
With autumn and winter on its way, this whole collection is constructed in an appropriate earth tone palette, with burnt orange, mustard yellow and mute olive anchored by timeless neutrals such as navy, heather grey and brown leather.
Stand out pieces include a classic chunky knit cardigan in dark olive green with a storm flap at the neck, imitation horn buttons and patch pockets for convenience and retro charm. To keep you warm, this piece is constructed from 100 per cent Shetland wool and is available at the fraction of the price one would pay for a similar piece from a different brand.
Another great investment is a jacket/blazer hybrid in grey marled wool from the authentic Abraham Moon & Sons Ltd. cotton mill. It features imitation horn buttons, flap buttons with leather lining, elbow patches for durability, a back vent and chambray lining. To round-up the outerwear options, there is also a reversible navy/bright orange waxed cotton anorak with a fashionable integrated hood and elastic drawstring.
Other pieces included within the collection are a casual checked button-down shirt, a great asset to any capsule wardrobe, a Jacquard knit Shetland wool sweater with suede elbow patches and a few t-shirts and Henleys in neutral grey. Finishing touches include a rucksack and iPad case in waxed cotton, wool beanies/caps and a bright orange bandana-style scarf.
The collection was released on September 19th. It is available in selected stores and online at H&M.
