Baartmans And Siegel Team Up With River Island
Baartmans and Siegel is the latest Design Forum collaborator for high street retail chain River Island. The London-based designers follow previous menswear talent Joseph Turvey in the initiative.
Details on the 12-piece collection are limited – other than it contains outerwear, tailoring, accessories and statement footwear – with only five of Baartmans and Siegel’s sketches currently released for reference.
Dutch Wouter Baartmans and British Amber Siegel met while working at Amsterdam fashion house Viktor & Rolf. The duo describes their aesthetic as “classic elegance with modern masculinity”.
Design Forum representatives have confirmed that full information and imagery will be revealed during the upcoming London Collections: Men, in June. River Island will also present a film focusing on the project, directed by Ryan Hopkinson as part of the BFC’s Fashion Film programme.
In a joint interview, Baartmans and Siegel told FashionBeans the collection mirrors their brand’s own mainline range.
“The collection was created to feel very cinematic, celebrating strength and masculinity. Confident and sharp outerwear in tactile fabrics, while cut in an approachable silhouette.”
Baartmans and Siegel’s latest venture marks the designer’s first move into the high street market. Commenting on the experience of working with River Island, both described the process as “interactive” and “stimulating”.
“Working with a British, family-based, company with a reputation for creative self-expression allowed us to explore technical aspects that we have wished to create for some time,” they said.
Prices for when the collection hits River Island stores in September will start at £20 for gloves, reaching up to £120 for a faux fur-trimmed parka and £160 for a suede jacket.
