The Blood Brother AW13 lookbook is rooted in science fiction and the future, which manifests itself in terms of both style and production. The collection is most notably paralleled to George Lucas films, and the futuristic city of Dubai. The love of the Star Wars franchise in particular has influenced the design process, which utilises more sophisticated methods of fabrications. The brand takes the common portrayal of the future in Sci-Fi films and turns it on its head. Clean and ultra-modern visions are replaced by derelict landscapes, desolated deserts and canyons, mirrored by what is happening in our lifetime and the current growth of Dubai. This distorted vision of what the future holds becomes apparent in the brand’s evident conflict between new and old, especially in regard to texture. Pieces utilise contrasting finishes – juxtaposing patent and high-shine gloss with dried out suede, knitwear, sports-inspired silhouettes, unfinished hems and clashing fabrics. The Dubai influence shines through via the incorporation of the brand’s ‘Never Alone’ strap line in Arabic, which is embroidered onto t-shirts, and the use of tonal and de-saturated images on sweatshirts. The range features an abundant use of leather, with the introduction of a black leather tracksuit, a black hooded jacket and a gilet inspired by body armour. Blood Brother have also revisited the varsity silhouette this season, using innovative finishes such as cracked leather and luxurious shearling linings in an effort to give the piece a modern, premium update.
