Disney Teams Up With Opening Ceremony
Mickey Mouse has joined the likes of Uniqlo, Timberland and Nike by teaming up with collaborative clothing label Opening Ceremony.
Disney’s cartoon character is at the centre of an effort by the American firm to mark the 85th anniversary of his debut.
The new collection, which follows on from other Opening Ceremony projects with Levi’s, adidas Originals, and René Magritte, includes clothing and accessories.
Shirts, jumpers and socks all carry stills and prints taken from the original 1928 clip, directed by Walt Disney.
Shoe manufacturer Vans and hat brand New Era are also involved, with both incorporating their most popular silhouettes into the 24-piece line.
In a statement, designers at Opening Ceremony were said to be “reliving” their childhoods through the project.
Steamboat Willie, which premiered in black and white just short of a century ago, was the first introduction to the mouse that would become one of the most iconic animated figures in history.
However, Mickey is not the first fictional character to be signed up by the label, having previously included The Muppets’ Kermit the Frog in its ranges.
The Mickey Mouse x Opening Ceremony collection is available now online as well as in the brand’s Covent Garden store. Prices range from $25 (£15) for socks to $265 (£155) for hoodies.
