Last weekend I visited the Design Junction at The Sorting Offices in Central London, a big exhibition of the latest and hottest designers and designs that are on the precipice of setting the world ablaze. One brand I came across, and have fallen head over heels for, was Cherchbi — a British born and bred leather goods and accessories company founded by Adam Atkinson.
Cherchbi’s designs are a masterful blend of contemporary style, rich heritage and traditional manufacturing, which gives this label a gravitas I have not seen amongst many emerging brands. It’s own provenance is a testament to its values – seeking to use British raw materials, made, processed and created on British soil, Cherchbi uses the often discarded wool of an iconic British breed, the Herdwick.
The stand out pieces that caught my eye within the impressive collection were the range of iPad cases and document pouches. With the current trend of man-clutches growing stronger with every season, I have been tempted to dabble and see if I can pull of this niche style. Now, I’m not one for unabashed colours; I like richness, depth, darkness and texture. So when I when I gazed upon this covetable selection, it was love at first sight.
Retailing at around £130, the iPad case comes in three colour ways of brown tweed and leather, grey tweed and black leather, or a printed version of the brown (my personal favourite). The printed collections are part of Cherchbi’s unique collaborations with Tamasyn Gambell, who has created prints for luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent:
Designed for all generations of iPads and other tablets, you can also use this sleeve as an A5 (or similar) document case. The stud fastening only adds to its heritage feel – it’s perfect for holding my phone and notepad during shows at Fashion Week.
The design itself has modern appeal while still feeling traditional and masculine, which is important when working with a potentially feminine style.
For those looking for something similar to organise their everyday possessions, look no further than the Docket Zip Pouch. In daily use inside a larger bag it keeps phone, travel pass, notebook, keys and other small items organised. Coming in the same options as the iPad sleeve, there is also a full leather grain version available:
