This week saw Mr.Porter launch the first in a series of exclusive designer collaborations due to be released throughout the summer 2012 season. The first installment of this series saw the premium menswear retailer team up with British fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, to create an exclusive men’s capsule collection.
The collection itself is a 9 piece range made up of a variety of different garments – from sweats to shirting, blazers to outerwear, as well as trousers and shorts.
The the collection is “Ivy inspired” and based on imagery from ‘Take Ivy’ – a book of photographs shot on US Ivy League campuses back in the 1960s.
The Ivy League look is a firm favourite here in the FashionBeans office, so it’s comforting to know that well respected designers like Sir Paul Smith are also fans of this particular look.
“I’ve always liked Ivy style,” says Sir Paul. “It’s a good timeless look and I’ve just given it the Paul Smith twist.”
One of our favourite pieces from the range is the Stretch Cotton Twill and Leather Varsity Jacket. This versatile garment represents the Ivy League aesthetic perfectly and is a piece which you automatically associate with American Prep. The two tone colour and mix of fabrics give this jacket a subtle sophistication and richness that you just can’t find on the high street.
To avoid disappointment, check out and shop the full collection now at Mr.Porter – we expect this collection will fly off the shelves!
