AllSaints have delivered an altogether surprising spring/summer collection for this year. Departing from their usual grunge leanings, the brand has kept to their muted tones while producing an elegant and stylish collection of garments.
Stemming from their website, this new offering is split into an interesting triad. An entire section devoted to knitwear proves the new direction of this collection and holds a demurely stylish tinge. Within this group, the Hitch Cardigan – with a long, flowing, button-less torso and tightly fitting sleeves – is perfect for attaining both warmth and style throughout the summer.
Paired with the classic jeans and boots this piece works flawlessly, while replacing it for your suit jacket and an open collar shirt creates a smart, dress-down approach that remains both decorous and eye-catching on an evening out.
The strength of this collection lies in its range, and the Whitby Crew Jumper proves this. It’s a much more novel take on knitwear than the ‘Hitch’, with a disjointed patchwork of Arran knit patterning and a deep, oxblood colour making it a stand-out piece. Again this would work well in a smart-casual ensemble, but also, enhancing the versatility of this collection, would be excellent with a pair of chinos, providing a less constructed look not often possible with AllSaints’ signature clothing.
The remaining sections – shirts and suits – continue the novelty of this collection in providing a clean, tailored feel. While AllSaints have never been trend chasers, they still manage to hit the mark with their Bedford Denim Shirt, providing a vintage slant on this summer’s oh so popular denim jacket trend. This piece would look fantastic oversized and draped open over a photo print tee, coupled with either chinos or shorts; take this opportunity to break out the Hi-Tops and you can even reach that Nineties retro look which is so prevalent this summer.
